Our club is very much looking forward to the upcoming District Conference, co-chaired by one of our very own: Shirley Giltzow. A weekend up at Lake Arrowhead, hundreds of Rotarians from District 5280 will gather to learn and build fellowship.
Stay tuned for more photos and recap of events!
On Thursday, August 25, 2016, our club welcomed our newest member, Mayor of Lawndale, Mr. Robert Pullen-Miles. Rotarian Marcela Paez-Pak met Robert several years ago and maintained a solid friendship since then. We are so thrilled to have Robert join our small but mighty club as an official member and look forward to continuing our positive impact this this community. #serviceaboveself
Bio for Mayor Robert Pullen-Miles is below:
Robert Pullen-Miles was first elected to the Lawndale City Council in 2004, after serving as the chair of the Lawndale Planning Commission. He was subsequently re-elected to the City Council in 2008. In 2012 he was appointed to serve a third term on the city council after running unopposed. He was also honored to be elected as Mayor by the residents of Lawndale in 2014. During his tenure as an elected official, Robert has been instrumental in the development of a new library, a new community center, three city parks (with a teen center under development) and with major infrastructure improvements. Under his leadership, the city of Lawndale continues to be one of the most fiscally health cities in California.
As a former reserve deputy probation officer, Mayor Pullen-Miles has developed a passion for youth professional development. He initiated the formation of the Lawndale Youth Advisory Committee to allow the youth of Lawndale a voice in city government; and to give them an outlet to grow professionally. In addition to his role as mayor, Robert Pullen-Miles has served as an aide to four members of the California State Legislature, including his current assignment, as District Director for Assemblywoman Autumn Burke. He is married to Léna Pullen and they have three beautiful daughters.
